Sunday School Recap, September 26th

1st to 5th Grade:

What do we do when we mess up?

In 2 Samuel 10-11, David took what wasn’t his and when he thought he was going to be caught, he covered it up. As he worked to cover his tracks, David still didn’t recognize that he had sinned.

God, in his grace, sent Nathan to reveal to David what he had done. David was able to see his sin.

Out of his despair upon realizing what he had done, David wrote Psalm 51 asking God for forgiveness.
Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.  (verses 1 and 2)

Pre-K and K:

God Sends Moses

Even though cruel Pharaoh said he would not let Israel go, God promised to use his mighty power to free his people. (Exodus 4-6).

"This is what the Lord says: 'Let my people go, so that they may worship me.'"  Exodus 8:1b

Sunday School Recap, September 19th

1st to 5th Grade:

Can we trust God’s timing?
In 1 Samuel 16, David has the opportunity to kill Saul. Saul has been actively pursuing David with the intent to kill him. One night he sneaks into Saul’s camp and everyone stays asleep! Amazingly, David does not kill Saul, he only takes his bucket and his staff to indicate how close he was to Saul.

David’s remarkable ability to spare Saul is evidence of the presence and magnitude of God’s grace. David’s obedience to God’s call to love his enemy and leave vengeance to the Lord is rooted in his deep trust in God.

We are still working on Psalm 23:1:
The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not be in want!

Pre-K and K:
God Calls Moses

God called Moses and prepared him to bring God's people, the Israelites, out of Egypt. (Exodus 3-4).

"The Lord... cares for those who trust in him."  Nahum 1:7

Sunday School Recap, September 12th

1st to 5th Grade:
What do we do when we cannot “see”?
In 1 Samuel 13, Saul, the King of Israel, didn’t trust God to come through and went on with his own efforts. Ultimately, he failed.

For us, the “Joy Story” is about God’s ability to work despite our own failures and be powerful anyway.
Through our failures and God’s ever-giving grace, we come to trust Him more in times that we cannot see.

Psalm 23 is a great reminder for us when we are in places where we cannot see, to know that God is trustworthy even when our circumstances are overwhelming.

Psalm 23:1
The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not be in want.

Pre-K and K:
God takes care of Moses

God took care of baby Moses because God had a special job for him to do later.
